Algae bloom of cyanobacteria produce a teratogenic substance tretinoin
Frog growth and teratogenicity studies have shown that excessive or insufficient dose of vitamin A substance in the frog body is an important reason leading to frog deformity. Scientists found frog deformities often occur in lakes and water bodies with severe eutrophication. But there are no any direct evidence showing that tretinoin exists in the water to lead to human and animal teratogenicity. So the cause of frog deformity makes ecological environmental scientists embarrassed.
Retinoic acid and retinoic acid substances are active substances for metabolisms of vitamin A in animals and human. Cheap tretinoin has a wide range of physiological and pharmacological activity. In vertebrate growth, development and cell differentiation, especially during the embryonic development, they have an important role in regulating vertebrate embryogenesis much morphogenetic process. Scientists have discovered that it can activate the regeneration gene and it is an essential material in the process of limb regeneration for animals.
The study found that algal blooms can produce high concentrations of retinoic acid substances. Further analysis of the 39 kinds of algae, found that 32 kinds of them can produce retinoic acid and its analogues, and microcystis aeruginosa water bloom of Microcystis species produce retinoic acid substances. The traditional view is that the retinoic acid substances can only be generated by people or animals, retinoic acid substances in the environment can only come from human and animal excretion.
The first study found that bacteria can also produce retinoic acid substances, this discovery not only has important biological significance, but also aroused greater attention of the ecological and health hazards caused by eutrophication. Eutrophication is a global problem of water environment, particularly in the areas of lakes and reservoirs as drinking water sources. The retinoic acids produced by cyanobacteria may bring health risks through drinking water or freshwater for local populations.
With the help of related departments, the scientists find out that algae blooms of cyanobacteria can produce a tretinoin substance with strong teratogenic effect. And it overturned the traditional understanding that cosmetics material tretinoin is unique to vertebrates. Ecologists noted that the study opens up a new field of study and the study will help to explain the phenomenon of frog’s distortion in the wetland tretinoin gel
